WHAT IS FLINGGOLF?

FlingGolf is a sport that is easy to start and fun to master. You play on any golf course, but instead of hitting a golf ball with a club, you use a single FlingStick to hurl the ball and shape every shot from tee to hole. You can even play in the same foursome as traditional golfers. Just no argyle sweaters. You’re better than that.

MEET THE FLINGSTICK®

THE STRIKER PAD

When on the green, position the ball alongside the striker pad on the FlingStick head and putt the ball toward the hole.

THE CHANNEL

Used for long distance FlingShots from the tee box and fairway and for touch shots closer to the green.

FAQ

THE BASICS

On any golf course. Yup, every course in the world.

No. So grab a FlingStick and liberate one today.

Absolutely. Even in the same foursome. It’s just like skiers and snowboarders using the same mountain. A really flat, green mountain.

THE EQUIPMENT

We’ll help you. Click here for a detailed explanation on the different types of FlingSticks.

No. A standard golf ball is all you need. Don’t bother with expensive brands either; any ball will do. Unless you’re rich and like throwing $5 notes into a pond.

We don’t want to tell you how to accessorize, but the FlingStick weighs less than a pound. But if a golf bag is your thing, by all means, you do you.

THE GAME

Far, really far, or really really far. Over 90 metres within 5 minutes of using your FlingStick, but with some practice, strength, and skill, over 180 metres is certainly on the table. Hard-core athletes have been known to bomb it 220+ metres.

Very. Compared to an average golfshot, you will generally find it much easier to keep your FlingShots straight and on the fairway. But if you really enjoy being in the deep woods maybe this isn’t the game for you.

FlingGolfers tend to play quicker than traditional golfers, especially beginners. One “club,” more accuracy, no practice swings, etc. But feel free to play in the same foursome as traditional golfers if you want.

Unless the course has designated FlingGolf tee markers, we recommend using tees that play between 5000 to 5500 metres for 18 holes.

The fewer the FlingShots, the better the score. Sound familiar? The scoring in FlingGolf is very similar to traditional golf, but the rules are much simpler. Another way to look at it is that if you got rid of all the annoying golf rules that most people don’t follow, you’d get FlingGolf. For the complete Rules of FlingGolf see our Rules page.

THE TECHNIQUES

Yes. For maximum distance, it’s actually essential. Take a few steps back from where the ball lies and release the ball before reaching this spot.

For full distance FlingShots we recommend a baseball grip, with no interlocking of fingers. For flop shots, we recommend a grip with hands apart for more control. For putting, we recommend hands apart with hands positioned as on a hockey stick. For more info on swing techniques, go here.

There are many ways to get the ball to the hole once you are on the green. You can use a traditional putting technique (which is enhanced by using the Putting Slug), but there are several other techniques that really makes FlingGolf unique. Here’s a video that shows a few.

You’re not dropping the FlingStick down your back far enough, or you aren’t following through. For more details go to our Techniques page.

FLINGGOLF RULES

ON THE TEE
Take as many steps as you like while hurling the ball towards the hole just make sure to launch before you reach the tee marker.
IN THE FAIRWAY
Note where your ball lies. Retreat up to 5 paces away from the hole and take your shot before reaching your previous lie.
ON THE GREEN
Position the ball alongside the striker pad on the FlingStick head and putt the ball toward the hole.
PENALTIES
Take a 1-stroke penalty if your ball lands in a sand bunker or water hazard, if it’s out-of-bounds, or if you lose it.
SAND BUNKER
Remove ball from the bunker and retreat up to 5 paces from the bunker. You must take your FlingShot before reaching the edge of the bunker. Alternatively you can take a shot from the bunker without penalty as long as you do NOT pick up the ball (e.g., a side-car shot)
WATER HAZARD, OUT OF BOUNDS OR LOST BALL
Retreat up to 5 paces back from where the ball entered the hazard, went out-of-bounds or was last seen, no closer to the hole.

SPOLIER ALERT: FlingGolf Isn't about annoying rules. Seriously, go ahead and rip out half the pages of a regulation golf rule book. As if you even have one. All you need is a New Swarm FlingStick and a regular golf ball. Just count your shots from tee to hole, like counting strokes in regular golf.

THE COMPLETE RULES OF FLINGGOLF

TECHNIQUES

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE

This is not golf. Don’t overthink it. You SHOULD swing as hard as you can. It’s all about bringing it back, letting loose and completely following through.

CRAFTING A WINNING FLINGSHOT IS EASY

It’s as simple as using a baseball bat or a lacrosse stick. Really. Here are some tips to get you started, but feel free to fire away like nobody’s watching because there’s no wrong way to fling it. Check out the videos below as well as on the official YouTube channel.

THE OVERHAND

Use your FlingStick like a lacrosse stick. Keep your wrists hinged above your shoulders and drop the FlingStick down your back. Then lean back, look up at around 70°, take a step forward while aiming at that spot as you swing. Completely follow through towards your target. It’s OK if the head hits the ground on your follow through, the ball will come out on its own.

THE SIDEARM

Hold the FlingStick like a baseball bat and get into your batting stance. With the stick channel facing upwards and parallel to the ground, take a step toward 1 o'clock (for righties) or 11 o'clock (for lefties), and swing from low to high, opening the channel as you let it rip.

LOW TO HIGH

Like the Sidearm, you start the low to high swing with the stick behind you, but even lower. Then, swing all the way through ending up with the FlingStick over your shoulders.

THE FLOP SHOT

With wrists hinged above your shoulders, drop the FlingStick further down your back than the Overhand. Then pop the ball as high as you can, so it feels like it’ll land on your head. It won’t.

THE BUMP AND RUN

To execute the underhand, or Bump and Run, stand sideways, take a short backswing, then roll your wrists as you swing toward the hole, stopping your swing to release the ball.

ON THE GREEN: THE STRIKER PAD

Use the FlingStick as a traditional putter, making sure to strike the ball with the pad. We recommend separating your hands and keeping the FlingStick shaft upright and close to your body to keep the head and Striker Pad parallel to the ground, even “anchoring” the shaft if that helps.

ON THE GREEN: CHANNEL ROLL

Used when the ball is further from the hole, this is very similar to the Bump and Run. Stand sideways, take a very short backswing, then roll your wrists as you swing toward the hole, stopping your swing to release the ball toward the hole.

ON THE GREEN: THE FLINGNOTCH

If you have a FlingStick with a FlingNotch: With the ball nestled into the notch on the side of the FlingStick, open your stance and put one hand down the shaft. Then, push the ball toward the hole. Or use the notch of the other side of the FlingStick and pull the ball toward the hole.

SO. MUCH. LOVE.

WAIT. YOU PLAY THIS ON A GOLF COURSE? YES!

On a golf course, with a golf ball and even with other golfers. Think snowboarding and skiing. All you need is ONE FlingStick.
